Generalization
Definition
An umbrella term for behavior change that shows up beyond the exact conditions of training. It covers stimulus generalization (the trained response occurs with new people, settings, or materials) and response generalization (new, untrained responses with the same function appear).
Example from a session
A learner taught to say "hi" to her therapist says "hi" to her teacher (stimulus generalization) and also starts saying "hello" (response generalization).
