Higher-order conditioning
Also called second-order conditioning
Definition
Respondent conditioning in which a neutral stimulus is paired with an already conditioned stimulus, rather than an unconditioned one, and comes to elicit a similar response.
Example from a session
A clinic's hallway, paired with the white coat that already elicits fear, starts to elicit fear too.
