ABA glossary
Time-in
Also called time-in environment
Definition
The ongoing environment from which time-out removes the person. Time-out works as punishment only when time-in is rich in reinforcement, such as attention, activities, and preferred items.
Example from a session
In a classroom full of praise and games, 2 minutes away reduces hitting; in a dull room with little attention, the same time-out has no effect.
